Snow in Texas

I know it has been a while since I have updated...just been really busy...but WOW, this deserves blogging. It started snowing at our house around 4:30 today and it is still snowing at 11:30. The kids got to make snow angels and throw snowballs. They had so much fun.

School field trips

Isabella ( and myself) are getting to experience school field trips. First we went to a pumpkin patch, where her class played lots of games. Then there was Halloween. Isabella was princess Belle, Mason was Tigger. They walked in a little parade around their school, Finally, for the next field trip, we got to tour Panera Bread, and she even got to ice a cinnamon roll.

...Back Online

Wow......you don't realize how much our computer impacts our daily life until you have to do without one for a few weeks. Well, I am just glad to be back online. We have been very busy here. I will have to post pictures slowly I think. We went to ride with Thomas the train

We had a really fun time. Granny & Pawpaw came from Bogalusa. We played with toy trains, got temporary tattoos, Rode a real train, and lots of other fun thing. The worst part was the 2:45 car ride to get there.

Funt time at the fair

The kids had such a good time at the fair. They got to ride some carnival rides, play some games and even eat fair & carnival food. They had so much fun, they wanted to go back the next day. Of course, I forgot the camera so I don't even get to document their first fair trip. I think they are going to remember it for a long time, though.

6 years and counting

Our anniversary was Sunday. That makes six years for us. Here is a look back in time!

For those of you who weren't there. We were married October 12, 2002 in Lake Charles, La. We had a good sized wedding and a larger reception. We had antique cars drive us and the wedding party from the church to the reception hall.

We didn't do much of anything for our anniversary, but we had a nice day. Richie got me some spa and manicure gift certificates, and in the spirit of the traditional gifts we traded things of "iron" i got a cookbook holder with a fleur de lis design, and he got an outdoor thermomether.

We are planning a trip to Bogalusa this weekend to go to the Washington Parish Fair. The kids have never been, so we figured this was a good time to go. We also hope to finish the kitchen remodeling job at Richie's mom & dads. I will post pictures if we get it all done.

Back to normal

Well, we are slowly getting back to normal. The kids started back at school last week, yea for me. This weekend, we went to Lake Charles to get our frozen food that we had evacuated. Isabella had a little friend sleep over the other night. Yes, she is 4, I can only imagine what is to come. ;) Now we are starting to decorate the house for Halloween.

Today we got our lights back on at 10:30 a.m. So now we will begin getting back to normal....yay!! Here are some pictures from our street. The first pic is directly across the street from our house...a tree fell across the backside of their house

We're home...for now

Well, we are home...for now anyways. Still no lights, or air conditioning, or TV......I could have said no electricity, but that would have been too easy. We are expected to get lights sometime between now and Sunday. The kids have not taken to the house without the things listed above, and definitely do NOT like the sound of the generator. So with that said, we may be going back to lake charles tomorrow for the weekend. Our street is filled with mosquitoes, the sounds of generators buzzing, and nasty, stinky water sitting on the street.

Although I can definitely see damage to the subdivision, it is mostly trees down, and a general messy look that is not usually seen past our waterfalls, which are not yet working either, by the way. Of course let's not forget that it has been a full 2 weeks since Ike hit. A lot of cleanup has already been done.

Thankfully, the extent of our damage was to our plumeria tree in our flowerbedwhich is actually hard to see from the angle of the picture...

Our neighbors were not so luck, tomorrow I will post more pictures from OUR street.

10 days and counting....

Well we are going on 10 days with no electricity...10 days since we have been home and a whopping 15 days since my kids have seen school! Wow! The latest word is perhaps by 9/29/08. We will see. I have migrated to Lake Charles now. Richie is at home and working during the day and living by generator at night. The neighbors are fixing meals and they are all sharing. He is coming to Lake Charles for the weekend and to restock on food and supplies, then will go back on Sunday. (so no fears...he will catch the LSU game ;) ) We are all doing ok. The kids are starting to get wild, but that is about the worst.

We Evacuated

Just in case some of you can't find us. We have evacuated to Bogalusa, La. We had little to no weather here, however despite the good weather we are out of cable....go figure.

As far as outr Houston home....We hear that our neighborhood did pretty well. The eye of Ike crossed directly over our house. There is moderate wind damage, but I don't think there is too much trouble. We are out of power and they are expecting it to be weeks.....wow does this really happen to people twice in 3 years.......hmmm

On the Lake Charles front...my parents house did fine, but my brother and sister may have water in their house....they can't get there because the water had not receeded enough to see, but please keep them in your prayers....they both had a lot of wind damage from Rita, and there houses are only about 5 years old......

Well we will check back later....

Yeah for the weekend......maybe

Yeah! I made it through the week. Richie is home until Tuesday or Wednesday. The kids have been very good all week, even though i have been a less than wonderful mommy. Perhaps we will do a zoo trip tomorrow. Of course we are watching Gustav, and will be receiving any evacuees that need somewhere to stay. Just give us a call...and if it comes too close to use, we may be giving you a call.

.....Birthday

Yesterday was my birthday. I suppose it went as well as could be expected. Richie went to work and the kids played very well together. I was able to get a nap just before Richie came home. We went to eat, and then came home. I got lots of flowers, from my thoughtful neighbors, and my husband of course. The kids and Richie also made me a cake....or 2 actually.

Every day seems to get harder and harder...I thought things were supposed to get easier. I still don't know what to think, but that is all I really want to do. I have a lot of sorting to do. I think I have the worst healthcare in the world...I don't think I have met one doctor here that actually "cares" for their patients. I just can't wait to get better insurance and doctors.

Unexpected turn of events

Well, i am now in the 20% of whomen who miscarry a child. I am still unsure how this is affecting me, but for the most part, I am dealing very well. I think my antidepressants that I take since the tumor diagnosis is definately helping the situation, though.

Today, i did a lot of sleeping. i think a lot is just catching up with me, and I know Richie is going back to work tomorrow, so in the words of the discharge nurse, I will "return to business as usual" tomorrow.

For a pregnancy that was going so well, and so easy, how odd for it to end so suddenly. So the ticker will be stopped at 10 weeks pregnant !

Visit from the grandparents

Granny & pawpaw came for a visit. The kids had so much fun they were willing to go home with them, and leave us behind. (but they didn't)

Dad and pawpaw took them fishing

but the only one who caught the fish was pawpaw.

So Isabella decided she would sew her own halloween costume, but she said granny could help.

Trying something new

Well, I suppose we are getting on the bandwagon! We will see if this helps us keep in touch with all our friends and family. I will do my best to update often and add pictures.
